Duality was formed two years ago as the result of a ‘quartet mix and match’. Long time friends Mary Ann (M.A.) and Emily found the perfect lead in Jenn, but they still needed a bass. Shortly afterwards, Amy’s previous quartet disbanded, which turned out to be very lucky timing. The new foursome sang together at an Harbor City Music Company Show Chorus retreat and decided the voices would work. Over the next year they found the people fit together as well as the voices!
In 2018 they competed for the first time at the Region 19 Contest and were thrilled to be named the Novice Quartet Champions, taking 10th place in a field of 20 very talented quartets. (And proud to follow in the footsteps of Mix it Up and Group Therapy!)
Fun facts … Jenn, LEAD, loves riding her Blue Harley. Jenn first found out about HCMC and Sweet Adelines at a breast cancer fundraiser over at the Annapolis Harley Davidson store. It seemed like fate played a hand in it. Emily, TENOR, is working on her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy along with working full time as an OT in Baltimore City. When M.A., BARITONE, is not singing she’s on the golf course or directing her Church Choir! M.A. was Emily’s music teacher in Middle School. They both changed parts to sing together in a quartet. Amy, BASS, along with her husband, enjoys game boarding … running tournaments together as well as friendly competition.
Oh, the name? Back when we got together, all four of us were in two choruses! Emily and MA still sing with Upper Chesapeake Chorus as well as Harbor City Music Company Show Chorus. Jenn and Amy no longer sing with a second chorus, but we like the name so we kept it!
Duality loves to perform and sings a variety of music! Most recently, we were thrilled to sing at the Greenbelt Farmers Market. We were also a featured quartet on the HCMC Show
